The essence of my work resides in the delicate act of distilling the ephemeral energy that unfolds in each moment. The most profound aspect of my work lies in channeling nature's play, from which the depths of beauty and complexity emerge, revealing a multiplicity of insightfulness.
What began as an abstract concept, merging the artist and nature into a new expressive language, has evolved into a profound experience where the distinction between self and nature dissolves. Beneath the paint-soaked canvas, I discovered a serenity that encapsulates the culmination of this artistic exploration. In this delicate interplay, my role is not one of dominance, but of attunement—witnessing and guiding, in harmony with the rhythms that naturally unfold. The paintings, like life itself, reveal their own inherent logic, where the unexpected becomes integral to the composition, deepening its resonance.
Think of yourself lying in a sun-drenched meadow, watching clouds form and dance across the sky, feeling an effortless sense of peace in the moment. This sensation mirrors my experience beneath the suspended easel, where I apply paint onto the backside of the canvas and await its unpredictable journey. From this front-row view, I witness the colors blend and travel as gravity takes the lead, creating tributaries of vibrant paint that pierce and saturate the canvas like a sun shower. Here, I flow within nature’s rhythm, harmoniously collaborating to create these manifestations.
Fully immersed in the present, I approach my creative process with heightened awareness, embracing curiosity and openness. This mindset transcends automatic thinking, fostering a dialogue between myself, the canvas, and the natural world. As the composition unfolds, I instinctively sense when the painting is complete or feel compelled to respond—by pressing my fingers into the canvas to create tension breaks that aid the flow of paint. This act draws from a childhood rainy day camping memory, when I noticed how rainwater would drip through the canvas tent where I touched, tracing an unpredictable path. Just as I followed that water’s course, I now allow nature’s spontaneity to complete the painting, revealing moments of surprise that constantly amaze me. Low-viscosity paints, like the rainwater, become a vibrant testament to the harmonious unity between self and nature.
In creating my oil diptychs—one is archival and one is non-archival—on raw canvas, each engaging with a different relationship to time. The non-archival side (Apex) embraces impermanence, allowing natural degradation to shape its narrative, while the archival side (Abyss) seeks to preserve a moment in time. Though both emerge from the same paint, each unfolds different layers of meaning that call for the soul to see, and in the space between, treasured oneness can be embraced within the stillness of one's mind.
